Barbara Dametto is a dancer, arts educator, yoga instructor, conscious dance facilitator, sound practitioner, painter and expressive arts practitioner. She is the founder and director of Breathe True Yoga in Guelph, Ontario. Her creativity, love of learning and eclectic background all contribute to her unique approach to performing and facilitating. Barbara facilitates classes and workshops in chakra yoga, journey dance, painting for seniors, and movement and sounding collaborations with Gary Diggins at Silence, Guelph.

Gary Diggins is an expressive arts therapist and musician. He has travelled internationally bringing music as a means of building community. He plays a range of instruments from around the world and shares his talents generously with students to explore music as medicine. Combining ancient sounds with modern music, Gary's sonic airwaves become a canvas for imaginative soundscapes. He is the author of, "Tuning the Eardrums-Listening as a Mindful Practice" and one of the key players in Silence, Guelph: an arts facility for performances and workshops.

Brenda McMorrow is a Kirtan artist with a rich and diverse musical career. With a deep devotion to the unveiling and celebration of the power of sound, Brenda travels worldwide to share her unique blend of original folk-inspired melodies, world beats and sacred Indian devotional chants. Brenda is a featured artist on the White Swan Records roster, a Colorado label well known for its high-profile yoga-inspired artists like Deva Premal. She has accompanied Grammy award winning cellist David Darling and esteemed Kirtan musicians Jai Uttal, Wah!, David Newman, Girish and Dave Stringer, and has been invited to Bhakti Yoga festivals and events across North America, Europe and Asia. When not on the Bhaktiroad, Brenda calls Toronto, Ontario home.

Tom Wolf has been a drum and percussion instructor/facilitator and performer for 40 years. He uses his musical passion and extended drumming experience to teach complex and exciting traditional African rhythms to percussionists of all abilities. Using primarily djembe and dun-dun drums, Tom conveys how these rhythms relate to the rich traditions of the West African culture. Touring as a drummer across both Canada and the U.S., combined with a couple of local house bands, provides Tom with diverse musical experiences (not to mention sheer endurance and exuberance). Tom currently teaches out of Guelph, Burlington, and Erin, Ontario.

Experience Mindfulness: A Toolkit for Calm 5 Day Meditiaton Retreat

Dharma Centre of Canada. Kinmount, Ontario

With Barbara (Eva) Dametto and Felicity Bannister

June 16th-21st, 2017

This retreat will introduce participants to mindfulness concepts and strategies to help reduce stress, anxiety and achieve overall well being. The program is designed to provide people with practical meditation techniques and approaches that can be used in both their personal and professional lives.

Throughout the 5 days, participants will learn different ways to empty the mind and connect more deeply to stillness. By observing the breath, the body and our habitual reactions to thought, we strengthen self awareness and our ability to shift old, negative patterns that keep us in cycles of confusion and suffering.

The course draws on some of the universal concepts found in the contemplative traditions to help participants understand the more subtle and rewarding benefits of nurturing a mindfulness practice. Sessions will include silent and guided seated group meditation, meditative inquiry and discussion, daily yoga class, walking meditation in the forest and evening sacred sound meditative journeys.

Chakra Yoga: A Journey Into Self

In this afternoon workshop we will explore the 7 energetic centres of the body known as the chakras. Participants will learn how these centres influence our physical and psychological well being and how they represent different stages of our spiritual maturation. We will investigate what forms of yoga are associated with each centre and how to utilize this information for self  knowledge, empowerment and healing purposes. As we journey from chakras 1 through 7, we will explore different modalities that take us from the densest part of our being (1st chakra) to the highest form of vibrational and devotional expression (7th chakra). Through asana, visualization practices, breath work, loving kindness practice, vocal toning, meditation and mantra, we will investigate a full spectrum of ancient yet practical methods to bring awareness to the chakras and ultimately ourselves.

Goddess Restore and Embody

Sukha Yoga Centre. Guelph, Ontario

Sunday, April 9, 1 pm-4pm, 2017

The Goddess Kali is calling you in to focus and create in this Goddess Restore & Embody. She is calling you to identify your attachments, your inauthentic masks and to release them. She is calling you to cut and let go of your apparent control, your jealousy and unresolved anger. She is calling you to bravely trust in the alchemical process of Rubedo and to burn away the impurities. She is calling you to surrender to the creative chaos of destruction and in doing so be liberated.

Through Goddess Ritual, the Alchemy of Dance, Restorative Yoga and Sacred Sound we will embody Kali Ma and release these attachments, masks and unresolved emotions and find freedom with deep hearts and divine love.

Chakra Yoga Workshop

Sukha Yoga Centre. Guelph, Ontario

March 4, 2017

“Chakra” is a Sanskrit word which means “wheel” or “disk”. There are seven main chakras that exist in our subtle energy body which are located along the spine from the base to the top of the head. As portals between the physical, psychological and spiritual planes, the chakras offer unique opportunities for growth, healing, and transformation.

In this afternoon workshop, we will learn about these centres through discussion, easy yoga poses, breathwork, mantra, affirmations and visualization techniques. This is the first in a series of chakra workshops to come at Sukha Yoga. All are welcome!
